Nan, we’ve worked together for a long time and I just can’t imagine you not being around. Going to miss you and all our chats. Always in my thoughts and will remember all the good times we shared over the years with great fondness. Sleep well my friend. Love Heather xx
Very fond happy memories of my working days with Nan. Will never forget our night out a the ten pin bowling all those years ago. Makes me smile thinking about it now. Eileen
Such incredible fond memories of Nan. Always smiling even through the challenging times. When I think back to the days when she supported the application around Study Abroad students – she regarded every one of them as a precious individuals and offered a really personal bespoke communication with them. Incredibly respectful of everyone. Genuinely had time for everyone. Nan brightened up the office and will leave us with a heavy heart for a long time. I think of her swimming with dolphins – I loved those holiday photos. Linsey
On behalf of the family I would like to thank everyone for the condolence messages and comforting words on this page following Nan’s death it is much appreciated and I know Nan will be sadly missed by family, friends and people who worked with her love Douglas xx
I never met Nan face to face – we just chatted on the phone, and exchanged emails. We did this quite a lot! Nan’s tone was always pleasant, and helpful, and it seemed she really tried to help both students and colleagues. She took a real interest in the Masters programme that I direct – on Human Animal Interactions, but I do not recall her ever telling me that she had a special affinity to dogs herself. It does not surprise me though to learn that she did! I send you, her family and close friends my condolences. We shall miss her professionalism and kindness.
Sorry to hear the sad news about Nan. Thinking of her family at this sad time. Sx
Nan it’s been an absolute honour and pleasure working with you over the years. We have known each other for almost 30 years and in that time we became close friends. You will be missed so much by everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with Douglas and all the family, including Shane. Rest in peace Nan
I worked with Nan for many years via email and phone calls as we were located in different areas. I never actually got the chance to meet Nan until much later when we both ended up working in the same corridor, she was always a helpful voice at the end of the phone and more recently a colleague to pass the time of day when we bumped into each other. Thoughts are with her family. Jennifer.x
I was so sad to hear about Nan. Myself and Nan have worked at the University since the 1980’s and I will so miss her. For the past few years, we have always worked together at Open Days and these days will just not be the same without my colleague beside me on the registration desk. Thinking of Dougie and her family at this sad time.
I’m so glad to have known you Nan and can’t believe you’ve gone so soon. Such a fun, generous and caring person. I loved sitting opposite you, thank you for the chats, the banter and your help through some tough times. So glad we managed catch-up coffees before lockdown, can’t believe we won’t be sharing another. Rest in peace and much love to your family. Sue Woods xxx

Nan – you were an amazing person – remembering all the chats we had in the corridors in Pathfoot. The uni will be a sad place without you – hope wherever you are, you are at peace and still smiling. Loving thoughts to you and your family. Yvonne xx
I worked with Nan for over 8 years. She was a lovely person, kind but also witty and funny. I will miss her very much. I’ll think of her everytime I hear the Rangers score and everytime I see a German Shepherd! love Dianne x
I will miss Nan every day. She was always happy, smiling and full of fun. She will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched. The world is a sadder place without her. Lisa B XXX
Nan dealt with admissions for our programmes over a number of years and she brought to the role unfailing patience, perseverance and gentle powers of persuasion (a potent mix of good humour, courtesy and an unstinting focus on helping applicants) which disarmed even the most harassed and grumpy of us. She was a very human face and very much embodied the values that we all aspire to uphold at Stirling. Nan, you will be sincerely missed. Many thanks, Niall Hamilton-Smith
I worked with Nan for all my years at the University and she became a good friend, so kind and caring and good fun. I will greatly miss Nan and my thoughts are with Dougie and the rest of the family. Sleep well Nan. Julie x

So sad to hear this news – condolences and best wishes to family and colleagues. I worked with Nan in the Pathfoot days of Student Recruitment and Admissions.
I run the MSc in Health Psychology and Nan was always so professional and helpful when dealing with admissions and my queries. She will be sorely missed. Best wishes, Ronan
Nan – it was so great working with you. From that first day where I discovered your affinity for the ‘gers (but we still remained friends!), through many study abroad laughs and the occasional modest tipple … I’ll miss you ~ Jo H
I worked with Nan most closest during her time in the Study Abroad office and she was such a lovely person to work with. I had only been at the University a short period time and she was so supportive and responsive when I had the privilege of working with her. So saddened to learn about her untimely death. My thoughts are with her family and friends at this most difficult time. God bless.
You were taken too soon… You will be greatly missed x
Nan, you will be missed. A lovely colleague, always kind and considerate to everyone.
Nan, thank you so much for all of your help when I was applying for my MSc it was so appreciated. You were such as asset to the university and you will be greatly missed. I’m so sorry to hear about your passing and I’m sending lots of love to your family and friends in this tough time. x
When I was swithering and dithering about signing up for the MSc Performance Coaching for a good couple of years in fact, including signing up, postponing, starting off as a single module only and finally committing to the full programme, Nan was patient and helpful and professional throughout. She could easily have become quite frustrated by my endless questions and procrastination, but she didn’t. She was an excellent ambassador for the University and, as my first port of call with the University, a fantastic introduction to Stirling. I nominated Nan for a RATE award in 2019 and I was very touched that the University used the text I provided for that in its announcement about Nan, and I was not surprised to find out that she had already received an award in 2016 – it seems very much that her patient and kind interactions with me were typical of her approach with all students. Sadly, I never met Nan, and had always meant to buy her a fine bottle of bubbly, which I’d though about handing in to her – in full academic regalia – on my graduation day. Sadly now, that won’t be the case, but Nan will certainly be in my thoughts when I hopefully receive my degree. My thoughts are with her family and friends. Joe Walker
So happy that mum & i got to meet you, Douglas, Aunt Anna & Tom. Not forgetting the wonderful Shane, who sat on my foot. Thanks for all the times you visited Aunt Ena. We both liked Danielle Steel books & i visited all the charity shops in Stirling looking for them. We can’t believe you are gone. You were a lovely lady & i am so happy to be related to you. Xxx
Nan, i had known you since i started at the University 16 years ago. You were always friendly and helpful when i had any queries and i don’t think there was ever anything you were unable to help me with in all that time. I’ll miss our constant chats about the football and just things in general but most of all your constant cheeriness in the office, even when things got hard. My thoughts are with Dougie and your family. You’ll be missed always, sleep tight. Love, Stuart.
Nan, Dougie and Shane were never missing from any of the fundraising shows held by German Shepherd Rescue Scotland, whether it was at Vogrie Midlothian, or Banchory or Aberdeen or Livingston. Every show they attended, we have the pictures. Shane even won the Best Long Coat Shepherd Class trophy and prize at Vogrie one year and Nan and Dougie were so proud of him. Everyone at the rescue who knew Nan, Dougie & Shane will miss her, she was a very keen supporter of our rescue. Dougie, I am sure that Shane will be a great comfort to you and to the rest of your family in the coming weeks and months. We will all miss Nan. xx Carolyn, Dorothy and Julie GSR Scotland
Nan you were a very special lady you had a heart of gold and will be sorely missed.
